Appliances are the job people most often try to do themselves and most often regret. A refrigerator is two hundred and fifty pounds with no good handholds, a washer holds several litres of water in the drum that will find your floor, and a water heater that has not been drained is heavier than anyone estimates.

We bring an appliance dolly with proper straps, we drain what needs draining, and we tape doors shut before moving - which matters more than it sounds if there are children anywhere near where the unit is sitting while it waits.

Refrigerant, Scrap Value and Why We Don't Pay You

Anything with a compressor - fridges, freezers, window air conditioners, some dehumidifiers - contains refrigerant that cannot legally go to landfill still charged. It has to be recovered by someone certified before the shell is scrapped. We handle that through the recycling route rather than pretending the rules do not apply, and it is part of why appliance pickup is priced the way it is rather than free.

People sometimes ask whether we will pay for scrap metal instead of charging. Honestly, no, and here is the arithmetic: an old washer is worth a few dollars at scrap weight, and the labour of getting it out of a basement is worth considerably more than that. Anyone offering to take appliances free is either taking only the easy curbside ones or is going to find another way to charge you. If your appliance is already at the curb and you want to scrap it yourself, that is a genuinely reasonable option and we will tell you so.

Common Questions

Do you disconnect it?

Simple disconnects yes - unplugging, water lines with a shutoff valve, dryer vents. Hard plumbing and gas lines need a licensed trade, and we will not touch a gas connection.

What happens to the old fridge?

Refrigerant is recovered by a certified handler and the shell goes to scrap metal. It does not go into the landfill with the door still on it.

Can you take it the same day my new one arrives?

Yes, and booking it that way is the cleanest option. Most delivery crews will only haul the old unit if you paid for that at purchase, and many will refuse if it is in a basement.
