Why It Can't Just Go in the Bin

Mattresses are excluded from ordinary kerbside collection almost everywhere, and the reason is mechanical rather than bureaucratic. The springs and fabric wrap around the compactor mechanism in a collection truck and stop it, which is expensive and dangerous, so they get refused at source.

Can a mattress be donated?

Rarely. Most outlets here will not take used mattresses regardless of condition, for hygiene reasons. If yours is genuinely nearly new we will tell you which places might consider it, but do not count on it.

There's a bed bug history. Will you still take it?
