Narrow Lots, Alleys and Smelter-Era Houses

Black Eagle grew as housing for the Anaconda smelter workforce, and it was platted accordingly: narrow lots, small houses close together, and service alleys running behind. That geometry matters for hauling in a way it does not in newer parts of Great Falls.

The alleys are usually the better route. Front streets here are tight, on-street parking eats what width there is, and backing a truck into a driveway that is barely wider than the vehicle is slower than simply working from behind. When you call, tell us whether your lot has alley access - it can take twenty minutes off the job.

The houses themselves are mostly small, older and frequently with a basement that has been used for storage since the smelter closed. Those basements produce a specific kind of cleanout: dense, heavy, decades deep, and up a narrow interior stair. It is worth photographing before you call so we size it properly rather than arriving with the wrong crew.
